Program:   Hiking the 500 mile Camino de Santiago in Spain, with Clara Serrano & Chris Howard.

Come hear all about this trek: the beautiful landscapes across northern Spain, the various cultures (Basque, Castilla y Leon, Galicia), the food, and what drives thousands of pilgrims from all around the world to walk village to village for ~5 weeks, a path that has been traveled by foot for over 1,000 years. Chris and Clara will present a slide show with many anecdotes and practical logistical advice for making this trip.

Married for 30 years, Chris (57) and Clara (53) walked the Camino de Santiago in two sections: the first 300 miles in the fall of 2013, and the last 200 miles in late spring, 2014. Chris learned about hiking long distances while hiking the entire Appalachian Trail and other mountains (Kilimanjaro, and 35 14'ers in Colorado). He is a proponent of lightweight everything, and carrying only what you absolutely need. Clara likes showers, having plenty of oxygen (no high peaks for her), stopping to smell the roses, and taking photos. Both were enthralled by the hospitality of the Spaniards and the unforgettable camaraderie among their fellow pilgrims, from all walks of life. Chris is retired from the tech industry, and Clara works at Freescale Semiconductor.

Consider biking, carpooling, or taking Cap Metro to the meeting.

Free parking is available after 6pm on San Jacinto, Trinity, and nearby streets.
